Re-export so styles and headings stay intact
Charles Li · HumanPen · reexport-keeps-styles
A good in-place rewrite can still be ruined by a sloppy save. The literacy move here is re-export so styles and headings stay intact after you polish flagged continuous prose.
Distinct from docx-layout-stays-intact (keep layout during the edit), preserve-reference-list (references), and dont-wash-whole-document (refuse whole-file scrub). Here the point is exit hygiene: export without flattening styles.
Better order
- Rewrite flagged continuous-prose spans inside the styled DOCX—not in a plain paste box.
- Freeze citations, numbers, formulas, tables, captions, and heading levels.
- Re-export (or Save As) to a clean DOCX; avoid “paste as plain text” round-trips.
- Spot-check headings, spacing, captions, and the reference list before upload.
- Re-import a fresh AI writing report for the next round if needed.
Why re-export is part of literacy
Reviewers often open the file you submit, not the chat history. Styles and headings are part of the evidence trail. Flattening them makes a small prose edit look like a different submission.
What this is not
- Not a guarantee the next AI percentage will drop or clear.
- Not permission to wash the whole document or to chase “undetectable” output.
- Not a substitute for your course integrity process if one is opened.
