Leave unflagged prose alone after the report import

Charles Li · HumanPen · leave-unflagged-prose-alone

After you import the AI writing report, the complementary rule to only-flagged-continuous-prose is: leave unflagged prose alone. Clean body paragraphs the model did not paint are not a free place to “improve the voice” mid-pass.

Distinct from only-flagged-continuous-prose (positive scope), dont-wash-whole-document (anti-pattern name), and freeze-citations-numbers-formulas (non-prose freeze). Here the literacy move is restraint on clean continuous prose.

Better order

  1. Import the full AI writing report; confirm attempt identity; read the legend once.
  2. List spans with no highlight (or below your read of the legend). Mark them do-not-touch for this pass.
  3. Spend rewrite effort only on flagged continuous prose—highest first when time is short.
  4. Freeze citations, numbers, formulas, tables, and page layout on every edit.
  5. If a clean paragraph bothers you stylistically, park it for a separate, non-report pass—or leave it.

Why rewriting clean lines backfires

Unflagged prose already cleared the instrument on this attempt. Touching it can create new detector flags, burn billed rewrite words, and make the file harder to match to the report. Restraint keeps the pass auditable.
